I did this for a company, used a gps receiver and send the data as SMS
by GSM modem. I used a pic to control the 2 modules.

Sorry if this is something that's been talked about before (I'm

system whereby a coordinates from a GPS receiver are transmitted over a
radio system of some sort. However, I guess that in practice it would be
pointless saving money by making one and not just buying a commercial

an approved tracker will save me more money on car insurance I
suppose...

The thread about using CCD cameras interests me greatly - for a long
time
I've thought about building a system where alarm activation could be
performed by image processing, and storing of images performed using a
solid-state memory device hidden inside the vehicle somewhere. Tony
Nixon's
interesting robot application has really inspired me to start thinking
about
this.
