I'm pretty sure FNU stands for FNU Not Unix. :-)

I used to work on a navy base, and the I.D. badges that people were issued were
all printed with a first name, middle initial, and last name.  One of my
coworkers had a middle initial of NMI.  It wasn't until I met somebody else with
a middle initials of NMI that I realized NMI weren't the initials for three
middle names.  They were an acronym for No Middle Initial.
