Hi ! I was reading this thread about the Hyperterminal and serial terminals in general, and I saw that most recommendations was from programs that runs on a DOS BOX, or 16 bit versions of it, and I decide to comment my experiences with it, It may be usefull to some of you. I use very often serial terminals, because most of my proyects in PIC are with serial communication (RS232) I love it!! :-) , I generally use notebooks to program at home and at work (2 different brands) and for some reason that I can only imagine, when I use a serial comm program that was programmed in 16 bits or for DOS , the notebook starts heating up very seriously!, and after a while (let;s say 30 minutes) with the program loaded in foreground, without doing nothing, the computer turns off due to excessive overheating. It seems not to be a notebook problem, since it happens with my toshiba Pent II and with the compaq K6-II at work in the same way. so I decide to go'n seek for a 32 bits program, because I think that the problem maybe, can be that when this program is operating, all power saving functions are disconnected, or non operating (don't have any idea why). So I found this simple and GREAT program! in my eudora/attach directory (???? no idea from where it came from), programmed in VB6. It's small, works great, capture capability, and allows me to receive data as text, as Binary and as HEX, this is a VERY VERY useful tool for debugging, specially if you are transmitting data in a PIC development!. And because It's 32 bits, no overheating problem ocurrs on the notebooks, also it is very very simple, all options are visible and quite obvious. May be you find this program useful as I did!!!, You may need to have VB6, if not, you must download the Installer too (1.4 mega). NOTE: I didn't program this, I even have no idea from where it is, It simply was found in my Inbox attachment directory :-), maybe was sended by a member of some of this list or the other ones, don't know. anyway give it a try if you want, I send this message because I found this So useful! I though that it could be very useful for many more people... Link: briefcase.yahoo.com/lu2aoq Directory shared 2 files, the small one is the code and program. the bigger one is the librarys required to make it work if you don't have VB6 I hope that someone find it useful see you.
