I really have to admit that I have no clue WHAT this guy is on about. I set his subscription options to NOMAIL because of a couple dozen error messages from his mailsever. Specifically, the error was: ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- ----- Transcript of session follows ----- procmail: Error while writing to "/usr/people/robotic/.mail" 550 ... Can't create output: Error 0 Since they were apparently temporary errors, I simply issued a SET PICLIST NOMAIL command, as I do every day for any number of users whose mailboxes are full or whatever else. It's part of the job of list admin, which I volunteered to do and which I spend a couple of unpaid hours per day doing instead of reading list messages or having a life or whatever. I use the NOMAIL setting rather than deleting people so their list subscription date and options don't get nuked. Then, in response to his somewhat testy inquiry as to why I "intruded into his acount", I sent him an explanation of exactly what happened along with a copy of the error message AND instructions on how to turn his list messages back on. Apparently this didn't register, as I got another email asking why it happened. I sent an even more detailed explanation. Now apparently he's decided I've been abusing him in some way. I have run out of ideas for explaining the situation to him. It's pretty simple, but he seems to just simply not get it. I didn't delete him from the list (obviously -- otherwise he wouldn't be able to post any more!!!) but I'm just not getting through to him. Contrary to what people may think: James Newton and I are not brothers, nor aliases for the same person (I just offered to help out with the job he used to do). I don't lie awake at night dreaming up new ways to single out poor list subscribers at random for unjust treatment. I mean, seriously... I don't delete people off the list just for disagreeing with me about something (puh-leeze) or because I don't like them. I won't even delete Mr. Kelly from the list. If he wants to be off the list he can bloody well unsubscribe himself. Hate to disappoint anyone, but it's just not that important to me to feel the raw power of being absolute ruler of a flippin' mailing list. It's more like something I do simply so a list I really like can contine to exist. If someone wants to take this job, welcome to the party. Yeesh.
