Exactly what do you mean by color? I believe there are two types - actual three color LCD's like is used in a laptop, and a regular grey/clear LCD over a backlight, with filters that produce colors. This is what you see in a lot of fancy car radios now. I can tell you that sourcing LCD's and drivers is a headache. Samsung has dropped all their small static LCD driver chips. The only sources I can find are Philip$, Holtek, and OKI. The last two are hard to get good info/support from, in my experience. Microchip's one entry into the field is three times too expensive, and they are not interested in introducing any more. A real combo cheap microprocessor/LCD driver would be a boon to microchip.
