Hmm...I both isolated (from the programmer) and grounded pin 10 (LVP)
which I thought was the key, but still no luck.

I don't have a 18 pin zif handy....   :-(
could use a reg. 18 pin socket, but would be disappointed if that
gives me the same results as grounding pin 10 (i.e. still doesn't work)
