I believe there would be more discussions if developers got a chance to start learning about the dsPIC by using the MPLAB simulator. If you look = at the available documents and never used DSP before you probably would not know what to discuss. You would probably be able to learn better with a simulator where you can test code and se what happens when you do this an= d that. DsPIC is what I have heard aimed to be used with a C-compiler. Easy to us= e with lots of libraries. I would not make an actual project in assembler with the dsPIC. But I wou= ld like to do testing with assembler to learn the core. I guess that there is much more than the dsPIC chip to be in place before= we will see extensive discussion on the subject. I heard from a colleague who attended to Microchip Masters that they had done some testing with a new early beta version of MPLAB6 32bit. The first thing I want is a Beta version on MPLAB 6 so I can start to lea= rn more about the dsPIC. The question is only when Microchip is ready to release beta of MPLAB6???= ? The first version does not need to support any of the old PICmicro just something to learn about the dsPIC. I guess Microchip want to release the new MPLAB as bugfree as possible bu= t I could accept a buggy MPLAB pre beta version just to be able to understand the available dsPIC manuals. You do not learn programming by reading books you need to make programs t= o learn. I have looked at the available documents and it looks like a darn good device but that is about as much as I have done. If I'm honest the dsPIC is more than I have needed before, but it starts making me dream of stuff that now/soon is possible. Maybe we can have a discussion of what the dsPIC can be used for? I saw a post from someone that wondered if a dsPIC could be used for MP3 decoding and without any experience in MP3 decoders I would answer yes. A= ny comments? Eelco: Read thru the docs on the mChip site and then start a discussion here abo= ut and specific issues you find interesting/confusiong. I for one will be su= re to chime in. I took several classes on the dsPIC at the Masters last summer and have a stack of documentation on it in a pile on the floor directly behind me as= I type this. I don't want to get caught up in a 'what a wonderful chip this is when wi= ll we get it why isn't it out yet' kind of discussion.
