I have had some minor timeout problems under Windows 2000 so now I only use it on a lab machine that we run W98 on. Actually, I think that was my article, now that you mention it. Jim tells me it is a problem with MPLAB, but I have no way to verify that since I don't have a PICStart. If you are programming flash parts it is just a nuicance. If you are programming "JW" parts it is a big nuicance. If you are programming "OTP" parts it is a disaster. If I recall -- and I'm not sure -- the native code did work OK. Under 98 it works fine. My only complaint is I can't seem to coax mine into programming 16F628s even using the "workarounds" on the web site. The native software is a bit different and takes some getting used to but it is OK once you are used to it. Of course, the MPLAB software is really different -- I usually just use the native software anyway. Good luck!
