Microchip intends the Mid-Range Reference manual (33023a.pdf) to be used
only as a rough guide. They expect you to look at the actual device data
sheet for the authoritative specifications.
From: page 15 of 688, Section 1.2 "Manual Objective",
"Therefore, it is not intended to replace the device data sheets, but
complement them. In other words, this guide supplies the general details and
operation of the PICmicro architecture and peripheral modules, while the
data sheets give specific
details"...

For the PIC16F877 the data sheet is 30292c.pdf, which shows (page 162 of
218):
