I always place my PIC chips into an AUGAT socket that uses the round machined IC sockets. Then I plug the whole assembly into the on-board socket (which is also the same type of round-pin machined socket). After a hundred or so insertions I carefully remove the carrier socket and plug the PIC into a new one. Sockets are cheaper than PICs. Fr.
