Just an idea, but if you could easily modulate a signal, then you could just feed it DTMF signals... A DTMF generator on one end and a DTMF decoder on the other. Both of these can be foung at bgmicro.com You would be able to send a total of 16 signals (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0*,#,A,B,C,D).
