Hi Paul,
I am not familiar with that device, but Peter Anderson has some C code
examples at http://www.phanderson.com/PIC/PICC/index.html
for different Dallas Devices. The examples might help out.
Could you be having an inverted logic problem, are you using
a level converter chip like max232 ?
