EX: Sound recorder from windows - > go to edit, audio properties (maybe the names are wrong I've been contacted off-list by an ASUS supplier. As I suspected, the problem was firmware, not the audio s/w or editing programs. What should have been supplied with the m/b was a VIA driver CD. This sets up the PCI bridges etc which is crucial for what I need to do (the audio does not need that path to get to the speakers). I managed to get to the place where I got the m/b from and they cheerily handed over the CD that should have been in the box. Mongrels. Anyway, all seems to be going now. I've got a shareware program called GoldWave to try out, looks pretty good, comprehensive. Thanks for suggestions. I can now get busy tranferring my vinyl (from Kate Bush to Mahavishnu Orchestra) over to CD. Vinyl players in cars never did catch on did they -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
