The 'I' indicates the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85
degrees C versus the commercial range of 0 to +70 defrees C.

I've also seen an extended temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees C
listed for some PICs.

(The -04 and P portions of the numbers you've listed indicate that
they are 4 Mhz plastic DIP parts but I'm sure you knew that already.)
