I'll be watching the replies carefully on this one, as I have a similar interest. The most reliable thing I have come up with is to use Exergen's IR/TC's at about $90 US a pop. They read same as thermocouples and do not require motion. A couple of things in their favor though, I have used hundreds of them without a hitch - just some median filtering; they are nicely packaged with choices in optics/FOV.
