This is the first sketch of the power supply that could get 100V on the input and gives me 5V to drive my CPU and auxiliary circuit. The circuit is basically Roman's 2 transistor circuit with PNP high voltage transistors forming a darlington pair, high voltage PNP driving it and a little protection before and more filtering after. The solenoid driving will simply be PWM without feedback. I will just push the valves hard on the beginning and drop the period to about 1/3 after the time they take to go down. This way I will avoid heat on the solenoid valves and on the transistors. I am not exactly after efficiency, I just need to avoid heat and cost, so I guess it might be ok to just use a 1N4007 as the flyback diode. Does anyone have specs at the 1N4007 junction capacitance and recovery time ?? I was not able to find it at any semiconductor manufactures datasheets ! If anyone sees anything wrong with the circuit please tell me. I should be sending the boards to make prototypes in about 2 days. I hope I have time for some protoboard testing before that.
