Just for some clarification: CAN is a data protocol - data is arranged into a packet and driven out onto a bus. RS-485 is an electrical specification for a bus. It allows multiple drops on the bus and behaves like a "dotted AND" bus (one driver transmitting a "0" and a "0" will appear at all nodes of the bus). You can send RS-485 data as NRZ (standard Serial), Manchester encoded or some other protocol... Like CAN. CAN data is normally driven on a RS-485 bus. The reason for CAN using RS-485 is its behavior like a dotted AND bus. myke ----- Original Message ----- From: "Micro Eng" To: Sent: Friday, December 14, 2001 9:38 AM Subject: [EE] RS485 or CAN ? > Any thoughts on using CAN over RS485 ? > > _________________________________________________________________ > Join the world s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. > http://www.hotmail.com > > -- > http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics > (like ads or off topics) for you.
