Ian: You basically leave D0 - D3 unconnected on the display. Setup up= RS and R/W as usual, then clock the high nibble onto D4-D7, then= clock the low nibble onto D4-D7. Take a look at the HD44780 data sheet for details. For some= reason this data sheet seems to be impossible to find on= Hitachi's sites.
