Hi Guys (and Gals) My Dad's been hinting at me that he'd like a tachometer (rev counter) fitted to his car and so I'm looking into the possibility of building him one for Christmas (also because he's difficult to buy a present for). I had a problem searching the archive when I tried and searching the web didn't help much. My plan is to use a wire around a spark lead as the sensor with a PIC counting the pulses and displaying to two 7-seg displays the Revs per min also an LED bar graph with a 'red-line'. But to begin with a simple rev-counter would do and I could build on from that at a later date (like an add-on for his birthday ;-) ). I'll need some form of transformer to take the 12v car battery to a 5v regulated circuit for the PIC, any help with all of this would be greatly appreciated. If, and when, I've built my tachometer I'll be sure to build a website of some sort to display the information to others.
