I This sounds like you have your levels inverted. The PC will send inverted clock and data signals relative to the PIC, which is one reason people use the MAX chips. But you CAN read the PC directly connected to your PIC, although people don't recommend it. I would suggest switching the levels that your PIC is looking for and try it again.
