I have over 50,000 messages archived with it -- it handles large volumes of mail and= mail folders very well. I've been using a shareware mail program called Poco Mail for a little over a year now. I switched because I liked the user interface better and (at the time) Pegasus used a proprietary mailbox format. You can now use a Unix style mailbox format in Pegasus (which I'd recommend if you ever want to change to another email client in the future and easily transfer your archived mail.
