And it is transmitting on the same frequency as every other mobile on that cell. And you need to be in the same country, in the same cell (or within appreciable range of that cell)... Which makes DF a little more tricky at best. *If*, of course, it isn't just managing a query to the provider's database to see whether the phone is active in a cell... Home Location Register/Visitor Location Register etc. I'm not sure the providers would go for a system that would duplicate what is already done to track the location of mobiles in cells. There are still easier ways to get a more accurate location out of someone with a phone switched on - they usually require the assistance/coercion of the particular provider in the country the phone is in, however.
