There's the Pocket at http://www.bubblesoftonline.com which is what I use. Lots of features and less than $100. It only comes with Windows software so I wrote my own. Actually my code is for FreeBSD, but it shouldn't be too hard for a "heavy Linux user" to adjust the IO calls. My code is at http://terrandev.com/~bfoz/pocket/.
