One of the courses at the Microchip MASTERS seminar specifically
addressed the issue of bootloaders in the PIC18 series. It skimmed
the class notes and they were reasonably detailed. The PowerPoint
slides, etc. were on the CD-ROM given to attendees.

I do not know if the CD-ROM is freely available -- you may want to
contact your Microchip rep and inquire whether he can get you one.
