AFAIK Nokie does it the dirtiest way: they hide the communication on the physical layer completely so there is no chance to tell with the phone using the PIC. U will recognize it so as Nokia s/w install a fake serial port on the Windoze PC which virtually does not exist (COM3 or so). I heard there is a Linux project willing to do the same emulation, but I have no further information at this time. I had the same problem and ceased Nokia. I will try Siemens as they promise they provide a true Hayes modem in their phones for the user. Maybe I will get a cable on the weekend and I will report of it.
