Hi, "My rule of thumb is to make the hardware adequate, if at all possible. You don't say what resolution you need, but at 1.6kHz you have quite a choice of ADCs. How much you have to do in software depends on the hardware you have and the goal (neither of which is stated... :)." The requirement is for a large volume (100k/annum), v.low cost product which blurs the edge of making the hardware "adequate" as opposed to using a modicum of cleverness. I was asking on behalf of a colleague and I believe his requirement is that a resolution of 12bits (14 would be better!) over a 0-5V range at the sampling rate suggested. The current hardware has one 10-bit converter AFAIK. My colleague is digesting the replies I have forwarded so far and will have a reply soon (or so he tells me ;-) Thanks to all respondents, Regards, Dan -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
