I have a 240x64 LCD using a T6963C and had exactly the same problem that
you described.  It frustrated me to no end but at the time (1 year ago) I
thought the problem was with the speed of the BX-24 I had it wired to.

If you're interested I can send you all the bits and pieces I found on the
net to do with the T6963C including some C source that I found or was sent
to me.
