Hi all, I have actually thought of designing a fixed phone which can send and receive SMS just like what Peter has mention. Ken Boak has shown us that we can really put in DTMF and V23 in a single PIC and let two phones communicate with each other with the mininum component. But to have the ability of SMS, there are several problems which i could think of - 1. Let's imagine that the phone is going to receive SMS just like a handphone. That means the phone can receive SMS when - - the phone is being used - the phone is on hook How are we going to do that? I don't know much about telephone exchange, but i guess, if these capability are to be achieved, then there must be tight cooperation with the phone company. ( will they be bothered ? ) 2. Let us downgrade our functionality. Let say to send a SMS from A to B, A phone will automatically dialed up to a common number ( just like 911 ). The common number is some sort of like an exchange and will accept the message from A. It will then dial to B phone to transfer the message. Now here is the problem, how would B know how to differentiate between a normal voice call and an SMS? Perhaps - 1. again we can liase with the phone company to add in a signal ( just like caller id ) along with the ringing tone. but will they do that? can they do that? 2. follow the fax system. Please let me know your view. Rgds, pang __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo!
