LM18293, I use these, they have very good control.

I'm lookin' for a chip.

I need a driver chip for bipolar steppers, with chopped current control,
which is a bit less macho than the 3717/3771 sorts of drivers.  Inexpensive
would be good too.

The stepper I have to drive is a 14 ohm winding, and I will have probably
8-8.5V.  I need a max of about 400mA. Speed, up to 1000 steps/sec
