On CMOS, you are right, I was looking at the digital gate inputs on the data sheet and it said "TTL Input Buffer" and must have misconstrued it. I just noticed that there is a note in the A/D section that driving analog levels to a gate configured as digital can cause currents to go out of spec tolerance.
