"Serial Pic'n" by Roger L. Stevens, published by Square 1 Electronics.

I think it was about $40, though I'm not sure.

You can download source from their website, though it may be intended for
book purchasers only.  The source code that you download is un-commented,
making me think it is for public consumption, though.  (The same code in
the book is very well commented, and has proven a virtual necessity for
me)

I like the book.
