I'd considered that as an option but ruled it out pretty quickly: I live in Canada. A wet thermometer is not that good an idea if it's -20 degress C outside! :) I bit the bullet and bought a humidity sensor by Honeywell (as suggested by someone on this list) for $32 from a local distributer. It has a voltage output and it works very well.
