Jinx, Regarding pulleys, I can tell you with total certainty, in accord with your own opinion, the parity of the pulleys' sizes is immaterial, assuming no friction, and assuming that by "pulley" we mean a freewheeling idler. The statement regarding size of the pulleys is a "red herring". In practice, a larger pulley will have lower losses to friction. Ball bearings generally eliminate this concern.
