Good point, Russell, but would be good to get a Brit [empire!] perspective on one thing - As the storybooks all say, General Winter1941 stopped Hitler cold [no pun intended], but I've always wondered that, came Corporal Spring1942 and Lieutenant Summer1942, why he just didn't go in and finish the job, or was he too worried about the imminent reinforcements on the horizon - General Winter1942, General Winter1943, and General Winter1944?
