Where I live > it's all canals so it's tricky to get lost...... > > Ben > I am planning a 4 day trip on the Current River in the Missouri Ozarks next week. Since the river never reverses direction and has no forks in the section we are canoeing, the only way to get lost is to go past your take out point. The canoe speedometer, in my view, is just for fun. It would be also be useful to be able to tell how fast we are paddling. Last Monday we did 10 miles on the Rock in northern Illinois. We finished about an hour earlier than we had expected, and all of us were sore, even those that paddled regularly. I think the reason is this: it was windy. Therefore, we had the perception that we were moving more slowly, so we _actually_ paddled harder. That's why we finished early. Where do you live where you canoe in canals?
