I know nothing about JAVA, but am considering using it?

I was wondering if anyone has tried using a Java application to =
communicate with a PIC via the RS232 port? i.e. as a stand alone =
program.

My idea was to get info from the real world via a PIC, say as numerical =
data from 1 to 100, then display it on a PC as a colourful Bargraph, =
like you see on HIFI amplifiers etc, all this happens in real time.=20

Is this possible?
