I have a couple of applications where I need simple and compact local control. I've settled on a potentiometer and switch arrangement where the pot selects the desired value and the switch locks the value in and advances to the next input. I'm about halfway through my testing. I realized that two separate components are really not necessary. All I need is a pot with an integrated switch. This would both reduce the space required for the user interface and simplify the interface because it can then be operated with one hand without having to move that hand from one component to the other. But after searching for a bit I also realized that the commonly available component doesn't really meet my need. Common pot/swtch combos are organized an a volume/power knob type arrangment. The switch clicks on/off at one end. What I need is a switch that can be pushed with the know set in it's current position. I'm envisioning operation where the interface is activated bu pushing the knob. The display will flash the value to be set. The knob is turned to the desired value. Then the knob is pushed again to set the value and advance to the next one. Once all the values are set the interface is deactivated until the knob is pushed again. My two immediate applications are setting the time on my sunrise/sunset controller and a programmable thermostat I'm putting together. But clearly it has applications in dimmers and any other kind of control interface where the switch indicates start/advance/completion and the pot sets the value. So does such an item exist? Let me know. TIA. BAJ -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline? Don't AutoReply us! email listserv@mitvma.mit.edu with SET PICList DIGEST in the body
