Well, I am not really a part-time "inventor", I work as an engineer for Toastmaster, an appliance manufacturer. So, for my efforts, I got a thank you and my standard paycheck, plus a Patent applied-for on my resume. The myth of the garage inventor is rampant in America, fueled by a few success stories like Mr. Hewlett and Mr. Packard. By and large, most garage inventors never get off the ground, because they don't think through a marketing plan, don't have a business plan, have no capital and no customers nor any tooling. I know all about that from the school of hard knocks. I DO invent stuff in my garage. I just don't believe it will make me rich anymore. Give me a welder and a pile of steel and I'm like a kid playing with Tinkertoys again. BIG tinkertoys. The truth is, the world WILL NOT beat a path to your door if you invent a better mousetrap. You have to go out and TELL them it is better. That's called marketing. -- Lawrence Lile -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
