Part of the reason they may be doing this is that Kylix, essentially a Linux port/version of Delphi, has been or is being released shortly under a very similar license. With these two packages and keeping a few caveats in mind you can develop one program which will compile for the two systems. This will be one of the first set of compilers (java, technically, is interpretted, not compiled) which will allow visual development of gui programs for both platforms...
