I spoke to an IRF engineer a couple of weeks ago, discussing low mosfet gatedrive voltages. This engineer told me that their lastest generation non-logic level mosfets, which includes for example the IRF3205, are fully enhanced at a gate voltage of >6V. This means that full mosfet performance can be expected with this drive voltage. I did need this information for an application of mine, were gate voltages as low as 8V are possible.
