And I used to believe that it was the "really quickly" part that caused the spark. But one day I pulled the flywheel off the lawnmower and lo and behold underneath was a set of breaker points. So I guess the magnet's not quick enough. V must be equal to di/dt or something :) Maybe it's not that way on all magnetos, but find the coil and see if it doesn't have another connection.
