> Perhaps someone can tell me why Americans pronounce > the word "solder" as "sodder", and while we are at > it why is "Arkansas" pronounced as "Arkansaw" > instead of rhyming with "Kansas"? I can't speak for Americans, but as a young boy growing up on the Saskatchewan prairie (in Canada), I was teased whenever I said "solder" until finally, wanting to be cool, I caved and starting saying "sodder." Much like today, when I say "Jiga" when I'm talking Physics but "Giga" when I'm talking computers. I'm tired of people scoffing at me when both are technically correct. The point is, saying "sodder" just saves you from having people always point out how you're not saying it right. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
