However, the second you feel suspect 'hot skin' anywhere correlated to the working oven while near it do check. I've heard of an oven that had the shield grille behind the glass torn out completely and was operated like this for some 3 years (with kids in the house). They used to move away from in front of the oven since 'it was getting hot'. Humm. They were lucky they did not start a fire with some nail in a wooden table or a curtain string of just the right length.
