This is a typical 5V to V+ high side driver. 5V logic "1" at the
base of the NPN turns it on and pulls the base of the PNP
low, turning that on also. A signal transistor can be used
for the NPN, driving a higher current PNP. Resistor values
may need to be changed for your particular application,
but probably not. If in doubt, work backwards from the load
using the gains of the transistors to determine the base
currents required. IIRC this circuit uses BC548 and BC327
