I don't know about CDROM but nowadays you can buy an external HDD with parallel port connection for ~$150 (used). Usually comes with driver for DOS. You can take the drive out of the enclosure and put it in a computer as needed. You can also connect the machine to another using a laplink parallel cable and run Norton Commander for DOS or something like that and transfer the data.
