Dale, about twenty messages ago in the thread, I made a reply that said approximately: "I'm screwed, 'nuff said", and the subject was: RE: [PIC]: THE THREAD IS DEAD: FINAL WORD: A great solution for the PIC16F877 problems (code protect, bootloader) And yet many more comments went on. So let's put it to bed, the thread is dead, and that's my final word. And, yes, I'm still as screwed as I was previously, and the fact remains that Microchip layed out a royal screwing with the 77, and they took until now to say "when we said the fixes would be out 7 months ago, we meant 6 months from today -- Enjoy" Ron And I'm not happy about the PO's I'm putting in now, they are making many tens of thousands of dollars per month from me alone, and they are trading at 26 times earnings. That means off stock value gains in market cap from me alone they'll be up many millions per year, which relative to their 4,308 million dolar valuation, it ain't much. But certainly they could have had the 77A out by now. Customer service? HA!!! They are sticking it to me on the price as well, had to fight like a som' bitch to get a reasonable deal. And compensation for working with such a horribly implemented device? Zilch, nada, zero. With friends like these, who needs enemies? It's likely my enemies will get my code anyway. I wonder why I even bother. -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Dale Botkin Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2001 11:24 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [PIC]: FINAL WORD: A great solution for the PIC16F877 problems (code protect, bootloader) On Thu, 26 Jul 2001, Ron Anthony wrote: Ron, if you have a problem with Microchip, deal with them. You originally asked how many others were upset about the same problem -- as far as I can tell the answer to that so far has been zero. Sorry about your problem, but there is nothing anyone on the list can do about it, so repeating the same gripes here day after day is not going to be a very productive use of anyone's time. Migrate to a different CPU, sue Microchip, I don't care, but I for one am getting tired of hearing about it. As for Microchip's size and priorities... if the revision to the 'F87x is late it's probably because so few peope complain that they have higher priorities (like new products everyone is asking for). I have yet to see anything detailed in your messages that does not work exactly as specified in the 16F877 data sheet. One does what one can with what one has and moves on, usually.
