Thank's to all who responded to my request!

The full protocol (for the DC280 and other Kodaks) is downloadable from
Kodak after joining the developers program.
It doesn't seem too complicated, although there does not seem to be any
way of waking the camera up from the 'off' state other than manualy
switching on. There is however a 'sleep' mode which I'll need to test
for current consumption.
