PIC16F876: I want to use Timer 1 and CCP1 in compare mode, trigger special event (CCP1CON = 1011) to generate an accurate timebase. According to the Microchip data sheet, CCP1/RC2 pin is "unaffected" in this mode. Does that mean that the pin can be used as an input by setting TRISC<2>? The Port C block diagram implies that the pin can be forced to be an output by the internal Peripheral OE line but it isn't obvious (to me at least) if this line is active in CCP1 compare mode, trigger special event. I'm running out of I/O pins and need to use RC2 if possible. A related question: If, as I fear, it turns out that RC2 can't be used as an input, is there a way of toggling the CCP1 output latch in software without changing the CCP mode?
