Have seen some mention of fast RS495 cards for PC's before...wait a minute, here's one... http://www.technman.com They make a 690k baud RS485 card that interfaces to their products, sure there are others around. Making your own parallel/serial converter may be a good option. Use EPP mode so the PC only has to do one instruction to read or write 8 bits, standard mode means the PC has the significant overhead of toggling the strobe line etc. From memory I think you should be able to get about 1M byte/sec (8Mbps).
