Roman, you might want to look at: http://www.philips.com/themes/led/ They are thinking it might be practical for general lighting in ~5 years, not bad IMHO. As they say, the best of the white LEDs are now more efficient than ordinary incandescents, so it boils down to further improvments in efficiency (hopefully to surpass flourescents) and reducing the cost.
